What is a recruitment strategy?

A recruitment strategy is a plan to find and hire new employees.

In other words, a recruitment strategy is a detailed plan that specifies what positions you'll fill, when, why, and how you'll do it. It should be aligned with a company's overall goal.

The best recruitment strategy for an organization depends on its needs and the type of candidates it is looking for.

There are a variety of recruitment strategies. Then which one should a company use?

It depends on the company and the type of position being filled.

Some common methods include:

  • job postings,
  • employee referrals,
  • social media recruiting,
  • and headhunters.

A good strategy will help identify the best candidates for the job and increase the chances of finding the best possible employees.

Some strategies, such as employee referrals, are better for finding candidates with specific skills or experience. Others, such as advertising, are better for finding many candidates.

I hope you're clear enough about the definition of what a recruitment strategy is.

What do you say?

Include someone who is in the same role in the interview process

If someone asked me about effective recruitment strategies and best practices, I’ll say it is one of them.

Guess why?

Not sure?

Okay, I am explaining.

  • The existing employee in the same role can accurately describe the candidate's duties and responsibilities to perform in his day-to-day activities.
  • Another reason is, the existing employee already knows what type of skills and experience the candidate needs to perform the job well. So if you keep your employee (who is in the same role) in the interview process, he can better verify the candidates and help you find the best talent.
Cheers!

Treat candidates as if they are your clients

There is a proverb; first impressions last forever. You can use this in your recruiting technique.

How?

One of the best strategies is to treat the candidates like your client.

Why?

It helps build a positive first impression towards your company from the candidates' side.

Not only this. There are more techniques.

  • Make them (candidates) feel that you're excited to know about them.
  • If it is an onsite interview, be hospitable. Show the candidates where the restroom is and make them (candidates) feel that they are valuable to your company.
  • If it is a phone interview or video interview, start on time. If there is any possibility of being late, inform the interviewees well before the scheduled time.
  • Candidates have the right to ask you questions during the hiring process. Give interested candidates your contact information so they can get in touch with you.

All of these are best practices - an effective recruitment strategy.

Use Social Media in a different way

An old strategy.

What?

Simply running paid job ads on social media or posting content regarding your organization - an old recruiting strategy.

Oh no, then what can be the modern strategy?

Yes, there is a unique recruiting strategy? What is that? A company that uses modern recruitment tactics knows better.

Today's workforce doesn't want more noise; they care about real stories.

Today's workforce is more interested in true stories.

Social media influencers who use rich storytelling and speak to their audience's tone get the most engagement.

Please take advantage of it. Utilize social media to tell your employees' stories.

Allow your employees to tell the audience about how they feel working in your company and what are their day-to-day activities in your company or something related to the company.

Let them tell in their own words.

How will this strategy work?

Quality candidates will say 'yes,' I mean they will want to work for your company.

Not only this.

It will help you to build a meaningful employer brand.

Cheers!

Make appealing job descriptions

An effective and engaging job description must attract the best talents.

Detail job description with attention-grabbing headlines is essential, and it's an effective recruitment strategy.

Here are some best practices:

  • Make a specific title and use the industry-standard term. Industry-standard means not using phrases like "Be a hero of our organization." Use industry-standard words like "Branch manager."
  • Make the job seekers excited. How? An excellent overview can bring an exciting feel to job seekers. You are ahead of others to attract the best talents if you can.
  • Highlight your company culture. It's essential because job seekers want to know the detail about this.

Promote---
               --- workplace flexibility
               --- Office locations
               --- environment etc.

  • Mention job responsibilities, hard and soft skill requirements for the post, educational background, experience requirements, day-to-day activities, and core responsibilities.

This way, you can create an appealing job description and attract talents. Good luck.

Data-driven recruiting

Do you know what your best source of hire is?

For example, you are spending a lot of time in career fairs and social media marketing. But your previous data tells you, you have found the best candidates from job boards.

Then why are you spending too much time on career fairs and social media marketing?

That's the reason a data-driven recruiting strategy is important.

It will reduce hiring costs.

So keep past recruiting data of your organization. Analyze which platforms the best candidates are coming from and spend more time on that platform for future hires.

It can be a great hiring strategy, right?

Hmm, I think so.
