Head of Data

Based in New York but fully remote, Shortcut provides project management software that people actually want to use. What a concept. Thousands of the fastest-growing organizations use Shortcut to plan and build software, including Venmo, Dataiku, Scale AI, FullStory, and LaunchDarkly.

We are looking for a Head of Data to build up our data organization. 

What you'll do:

  • Power critical decision making in all areas of the company by developing analytical tools that allow users to explore data and surface insights on their own
  • Hire, develop, and build a team of talented data engineers, analytics engineers, and data analysts to enable data-informed decision-making throughout the broader company
  • Collaborate with the CEO and engineering team leads to establish data architecture strategy, design, and evolution
  • Leverage your strong understanding of data modeling principles to help design, build and maintain our analytics data warehouse and ELT pipeline that provides clean, accurate, and robust datasets to be leveraged for reporting & analytics
  • Leverage your strong understanding of data visualization and dashboard design principles to craft a suit of executive level strategic dashboards, as well as tactical dashboards that provide meaningful actionable insights across departments and functional teams
  • Manage, mentor and grow a team of embedded data analysts

What you'll need to have:

  • 3+ years of experience and leading data functions across data science, data engineering, and analytics
  • 5+ years of experience contributing directly to data functions across data science, data engineering, and analytics
  • Substantial hands-on experience with data loading (ELT frameworks), data transformation (e.g., SQL, DBT), and warehouse design (e.g., derived data layers, star schema). Good understanding of infrastructure (e.g., job runner, data replication, data warehouse provisioning and scalability).
  • Strong business acumen with exceptional numerical and analytical skills, and a demonstrated ability to develop clear executive level presentations.
  • Strong experience working with modern data technologies such as dbt, Snowflake, Looker, Tableau, AWS infrastructure, Prefect, Airflow, Snowplow, Segment, Terraform, etc.
  • Have a high level of proficiency in SQL, Python, github
  • You have worked in a mature data organization and have the ability to articulate how to scale a department from scratch to a mature data organization from infrastructure to organizational design
  • Expertise in data visualization and dashboard design principles & best practices
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • You thrive in a in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment, with a bias for action
